About George

Since teaching himself to make cigar box guitars from a garden shed in 2014 for a GCSE art project, George has received an array of achievements and success. His first guitar won first prize at Tenby Museum & Art Gallery, and has now built over two hundred instruments.

After hosting workshops at several music and arts festivals teaching how to make cigar box guitars in 2017 he was awarded a Winston Churchill Fellowship Grant for traveling to the USA to research the Cigar Box Guitar Revolution.

Upon returning he went on to study Historic Musical Instruments at West Dean College of Arts & Conservation and received the Janet Creasey Scholarship for Stringed Instrument Makers. In the second year George was awarded the Queen Elizabeth Scholarship for British Craftsmanship and received a Distinction for his studies.
